(More customer reviews)I have had this unit for 5 years. I bought it because my basement smelled so musty, all you could smell as soon as you walked into my house was the basement. I was terribly embarassed by the smell and concerned about the health effects. The basement had been damp for the first few years after we built it, and I was concerned the smell was toxic mold. I spent 100's of dollars on mold treatments and preventatives, and expensive one-room air purifiers and Ionizers without any help. I knew the mold spores were in the air, not only on the surfaces and was being spread throughout our home when the furnace or A/C ran. The kid's bedrooms in the basement were unhealthy to sleep in, and even their clothes and bedding smelled like the basement. I installed the unit the day before we left for a 2 day visit out of town. I turned the furnace fan on and locked up the house. When we returned, we were amazed. Usually we come home to a house that smells worse from being closed up. We opened the door and NO SMELL, we walked into the basement, and the whole basement had no smell at all. I know the unit sanitized the air in the whole house and killed the organisms that caused the musty smell, including mold, which I was so worried was adversely affecting my family's health. This unit has turned our house into a HOME where the air is clean and healthy. This whole-house unit was an answer to my prayers, even sanitizing the air ducts throughut the house. I am grateful for the unit and what it has done for us and recommend that every home NEEDS this for a safe and healthy indoor environment at an incredible price for what it does.

The Hunter HEPAtech 10 Air Purifier (30010) uses the same long-lasting micro-filter material used in hospital respirators, incubators and anesthetic equipment. This two-speed model has a portable design that is easy to move from room to room. It has a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) that will exchange air several times per hour in a 6 by 7-foot room with an 8-foot ceiling. It's a great choice for desktops in offices, or for use in the smaller rooms of the home. Other features include an air flow rating of 75 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute), easy-change drop-in filter pack, and 35 watt power consumption.
The HEPAtech system has a whisper-quiet fan that draws air into the unit without noise, and then sends it to a separate washable pre-filter captures large dust particles, lint and pet hair. (More customer reviews)Before I bought my FreshAir Surround, I did not think I needed an air purifier. I bought the FreshAir Surround to see if it could improve a sort of dead staleness to the air that seemed worse when the AC was running (which in FL is almost always). I placed my FreshAir Surround in my kitchen on top of the fridge. It is sturdy, compact, and seems well-constructed, and comes with an extra purifier plate and a remote control with the batteries already installed. Right away I noticed that the dead musty smell was completely gone. The first time I unplugged my purifier for its monthly cleaning, I went out and forgot to plug it back in before I left. I was shocked to smell that old unpleasant mustiness again, which by then was very noticeable to me. As soon as I turned my FreshAir Surround back on, the mustiness went away. During the first week I noticed that there was much less dust in the house. Also the air smelled really great and it the whole house seemed cleaner. My guests even commented on the fresh smell of my house and 3 of them separately commended me on my housekeeping skills (now THAT was a first and alone worth the price of the unit). Then I noticed that my chronic problem of dry, scratchy-feeling eyes which I had always attributed to wearing contacts completely vanished within the first week. My dog's eyes too are much clearer and the occasional eye discharge common in all breeds has gone away completely. But perhaps the most dramatic discovery was that any cooking smells vanished almost immediately. I don't know about you but I am not a big fan of the lingering aroma of sauteed onions. With the FreshAir Surround in operation, cooking smells completely vanish in minutes. As I am admittedly not the world's greatest cook, and easily distracted when cooking, things often end up getting burned. Usually the burning smell will alert me to the impending disaster before it is too late, but since I installed the FreshAir Surround, the burning food smells disappear so fast that I don't even have a chance to notice before the damage is done. In fact, you can cut up an onion a few inches away from your face and your eyes do not burn or water a single bit. Here is a great story: One night I was watching TV and talking on the phone, when I decided to make a cup of tea. I turned the burner on high for the teakettle and went back into the TV room to resume my phone conversation. I became immersed in the phone call and completely forgot about the teakettle on the stove. About half an hour later I started hearing a strange metallic pinging noise coming from the kitchen. When I went to investigate I was astounded to see that the tea kettle was so hot it resembled molten lava, and the hard melamine handle had completely liquefied and puddled all over the cooktop. But there was absolutely NO ODOR. My kitchen smelled as fresh as a daisy! So, here's the deal: no more cooking odors but, if you're like me, expect a lot more burnt dinners until you get used to it.
It is important to clean the purifier every month, as recommended. I just take it down (I like that you can disconnect the power cord from the base of the purifier so you don't have to move the fridge to unplug it at the outlet), and then just vacuum the dust off the back and pop the filter cover off to vacuum the inside. There is a message to clean the unit that shows up on the LED screen so you don't forget. I usually run my FreshAir Surround at a fairly low setting (1000) and it takes care of the entire house (2,900 SF). There are about 7 or 8 different levels to choose from and 5 or 6 fan speeds, and I like being able to change the settings of the ionization and fan levels using either the remote control or the control panel on the front of the unit according to my particular needs at the moment. Sometimes, if it's a very muggy day or I have had someone smoking in the house, I use the 1250 setting for half and hour or so until the air becomes fresh again. I have never tried the Away Mode, which is a temporary setting on a timer designed for short-term, intense oxygenation output in severe pollution cases requiring the premises to be unoccupied (people and pets) while this function is in effect. In 11 months of constant use I have never had to replace any filters or bulbs. I am always amazed at how much debris accumulates inside when I clean the purifier every month, and happy that it is in the purifier and not in my lungs.
I have heard people say that it is expensive, but I think that, considering how hard it works and how much area it covers (up to 3,000 SF), this purchase is one of the best investments I have ever made.

(More customer reviews)I really enjoy using this air purifier. I find it's easier to breathe and sleep now that I am using this. From what I've read Hunter is great about standing behind their product. The noise level was certainly as expected. It has Turbo mode, which should not be run for extended periods of time (couple of hours) and also day and night. Day has a noise level somewhere in between the hum of my microwave and the hum of my computer. Night is just a bit louder than my computer fan. I actually love the white noise it creates in the background. It's easy to move around for people of average mobility and strength. I took off one star considering the price of the replacement filters and lack of value priced alternatives. The pre-filter runs $20 and needs to be replaced every 3 months ($80 per year) and the primary filter runs $30 and needs to be replaced twice per year ($60). Altogether that's $140 to keep the air of an 11 x 13 room clean. I feel the filters are way out of line as far as pricing. I buy similar filters (20 x 24 x 1) for $6-8 for my home air conditioner and the primary filter on this air purifier is made of identical material and is only a small fraction of the size yet runs three times as much? It just doesn't make sense.

It seems to work because I took it down for a couple of weeks and I started noticing when he was smoking while I was in other rooms of the house. (More customer reviews)For the past three years I have suffered with an unpleasant chemical smell in a bathroom of the new wing of our late-19th Century summer house in Nova Scotia. Despite numerous contractors' inspections we have not been able to identify the cause of this unpleasant odor. It is hard to describe, but to me it smelled more than anything just like wet cement. It was not only the smell that worried me but the certainty that whatever chemical or organic or bacterial substance was causing it was also invading my body through my lungs by breathing it constantly. We had tried other air purifiers but they just did not work. We had also tried scrubbing every square inch of that bathroom with many different cleaning products many, many times, all to no avail. I had become so frustrated and hopeless that I had almost reached the point of just giving up.

Finally, at my wits' end, I contacted several companies that sell different types of air purifiers. When I spoke to the people at The Green Giraffe, they suggested that it might have been caused by a defective cement mixture without enough hardening agents. After talking to them about their products, I decided to try one of their small plug-in ionic air purifiers. I decided to buy it from their website so I could take advantage of the free charitable contribution through their Feed The Giraffe Giving Program. What a wonderful, generous program that is! I decided to purchase the GT50. Amazon's ban on international shipping (including Canada) meant that I had to have it sent first to our home in New York, which took only 2 days, but then it took another week to get to our summer house in Canada. It finally arrived a few days ago.
My Lord!!! Less than 20 minutes after plugging it in to the wall outlet in the cement-smelling bathroom, what a beautiful smell began coming from that bathroom. I just couldn't believe it. It smelled clean for the first time in years. And since the bathroom attached to my bedroom, I now enjoy that delicious smell all night as I sleep, and I am sleeping more soundly and feeling better in only a few days.
I love everything about this product. I am used to the Smarter Image ion air cleaners. I have 5 of these in my house in upstate New York. They are cumbersome, unwieldy and difficult to maintain. You can never get them clean (and they require cleaning all the time) and you can't even have lit candles near them because of the fan. By comparison, the GT50 is very convenient and easy to use and it is completely silent and has no fan to contend with. I can't wait for the first cleaning time - perhaps a month away - so I can vacuum the little vents and clean the tiny silver sensor using only alcohol and a Q-tip. This surely beats spending almost an entire day of the lugging the five cumbersome Smarter Image Air Purifiers to the sink to clean them with wet paper towels (which never really got them clean), and then having to wait hours for them to dry.

I love the GT50's attractive design which is pleasing to look at, the ease of maintenance, and the ability to regulate the output. I also love the beautiful color of the crescent-shaped bluish green light - a lovely peaceful color that shines softly at night with the lights out. The instructions were very easy to read and it only took me a few minutes to completely understand how to operate and maintain the GT50. But mainly I love the way the air smells. It is just the cleanest, most cheery smell you can imagine. Close your eyes . . . you're at a mountain waterfall in the spring.
I am so thrilled to have solved our problem after three years of struggling with it. And for only $50.00, it's the best investment I have ever made.

I have pets and there is a smoker in the household and I must tell you for the size of this thing it is fantastic at eliminating orders. It works perfectly on a room 24X16 and smaller. Once when we were remodeling the house, we moved all the furniture and our air purifier was moved and left unplugged for a few days. I did not realize how it effected the air for a few days and then when I plugged back in there was that fresh clean smell and feel to the air. I have no scientific test to prove what it does but I do not that nose and eyes smell and feel the difference when it is on.

(More customer reviews)I am quite surprised by the fact that I was shipped ONE filter. The item description lead me to believe that this item was in a 3-pack. (Perhaps when it said Item Package Quantity: 3) So after the initial shock of realizing that my $60 went to purchase ONE filter instead of THREE I was quite annoyed.
The only reason I purchased this was because I thought it was a great price, it turns out it absolutely wasn't. Now, aside from that the filter is fine and as described. I chose not to return it because I didn't want to waste the money on shipping, and my old filter was getting quite dirty.
The filter is a hunter brand replacement, not a knock-off brand. (which at this point I would've preferred actually at the $60 price)
If you are reading this and do not see the "Item Package Quantity: 3" on the page and are wondering what in the world I am talking about then just know that the item description was probably fixed.
First time I have been burned by Amazon... Buyer Beware!

(More customer reviews)Shop around, and be careful of two things. Make sure whether or not you're buying a two-pack or a single filter, and whether or not the carbon pre-filters are included. One of the big at-home shopping channel sites has the best deal.
Also be careful of knockoffs. There are some sellers offering non-OEM replacement filters that FIT Hunter, calling them "Hunter replacement filters."

(More customer reviews)I bought my first Holmes HEPA air filtering machine more than a decade ago, and have been satisfied enough not to have bought any other brand since then, although I have had four Holmes air filter machines since then.
The first model I bought (I think it was the 220) is apparently discontinued, but it would be no exageration to call it a life-saver. I bought my first one because I lived in a house with a HEAVY chain smoker. Even though rated for only a single small room, that little sucker grabbed enormous amounts of smoke and the white paper on the filter blackened within weeks from particulate cancer-causing material which it saved me from inhaling. The next two filter machines I bought for a house which was infested with black mold. The one closest to the worst mold area blackened very quickly, while the second one, further from the mold, only grayed somewhat in the same time period -- the filter was very obviously cleaning potentially deadly black mold spores from the air.
The model I have now uses the HAPF30 replacement, and it is doing "light duty" compared to the first three I owned. I would have given this five stars except that I have the very distinct impression that this particular filter replacement is less efficient than the earlier ones I owned -- the filter has grayed with use, but I don't have the impression that the color change has been due entirely to grabbing airborne pollutants; I suspect (but don't have any evidence) that the filter is catching carbon which is being blown forward by the fan or else is catching dust which the negative ions generated by the machine itself have caused to fall.
Despite my suspicion that this is less efficient than earlier models, I still rate it four stars because I know that it is filtering SOMETHING out of the air, and I trust the Holmes brand -- they have earned my confidence through many years of arduous work. (I've never experienced any mechanical problems with one, either, until long, long after the warranty has expired. These things are real workhorses.) If the fans on the machines are kept to low settings they are fairly quiet, but at high speed they genrate quite a bit of noise, which can be a blessing in itself since the machine can act as a "white noise" generator to mask *noise* pollution, too.

(More customer reviews)My family and I moved from Southern California (where we slept with the windows open nearly year round for wonderful, well rested sleep) to Phoenix, Arizona (where the humidity hovers at most to 15% in my house according to my hygrometer.) After a month (and before we got the humidifier), my kids (3 and 1) were absolutely suffering. During the night, they were choking and hacking, wheezing and just plugged up. I was no different. Needless to say, our sleep was badly affected. I knew it was the air situation. After 3 nights of researching the different types of humidifiers, I finally settled on buying two Air O Swiss 7144 units (one for each kid's room). Although it was expensive, I buy things for the long haul and figured better to spend up front then have problems with cheaper models down the road. I have since turned it on absolutely every single night for them and the difference is short of miraculous. Here are some points: 1- a full tank lasts two nights running at 8 hours a night with the windows closed and the door nearly shut (about an inch ajar at most)
2- tank is not difficult to fill. I use one 3 gallon water bottle
(normally used for my drinking water dispense) to completely fill up both humidifier units
3- to maximize space and thus get the most water into the humidifier, I removed the demineralization cartridge and use only reverse osmosis drinking water for my unit. I have had ZERO WHITE DUST. The R.O. water is purified enough that there are no remaining minerals to be churned out as white dust. This trick also saves me from having to replace the cartridge. (BTW, our tap water is VERY hard so I didn't want to use it even with the demineralization cartridge because why make the machine work harder than it has to?) R.O. water is perfect and again, NO WHITE DUST AT ALL!!!!
4- It's so quiet, it's ridiculous. I LOVE that.
5- The warm mist feature is perfect. It does not raise the temperature of the room so it's never like a sauna. The air leaving the machine even at warm mist feels somewhat cool (and the first night I kept checking in on the kids to make sure I wasn't freezing them) but the unit actually heats the water to 104 degrees which is just the right temp at maintaining room temp (no moist saunas!!) and/or preventing steam burn to your finger in case a curious little one chooses to wave his/her hand in the mist.
6- I've religiously used the units each night for the last 3 months with absolutely no problem.
7- The buttons don't light up or create distracting glows. Important for me because I wanted the kids' rooms to remain relatively dark as that's what they're used to.
8- There is no leaking or condensation on the unit. The mist is so fine that it evaporates before it touches the little folding dinner tray table that I have each unit placed on. The carpet underneath doesn't feel soggy or anything. It truly produces an ultrafine mist that dissipates almost immediately.
9- I can adjust the flow and humidity to my liking (to get 2 nights' worth of output from one tank, I set it on warm mist at the lowest air flow at 55% humidity)
10- It automatically shuts off when it runs out of water. There is a blinking light that indicates that the machine is on "On" but there's no water. I usually press the off button the after the second night's use. If I forget to press off and fill the tank up on the third night, I noticed that since the machine is technically "on" (even though there's no sound or movement indicating that), as soon as I put the filled tank back on the unit, it immediately starts working on the settings I last set it on.
11- I have yet to use the cool mist (since it's still winter) but I read that it actually helps to maintain (at the very least) or slightly lower the room temp which is convenient in summer months.
All in all, I love this machine. By the way, on a few occasions when my older child needed me to sleep next to him until he fell back asleep (usually a nightmare woke him up), I noticed within 10-15 minutes that my breathing was VERY different in his room where the unit had been running for several hours into the night. No clogged sinuses or difficult inhalation. Once he was appropriately tucked in and I would go back to my room, within 5-10 minutes, my breathing would get adversely affected. That's how dry the air is in our house. So, that's why after 3 months of enjoying how well it's worked in the kids' rooms, my husband and I are looking forward to our own good sleep after just purchasing our 3rd machine.

Filter replacement was very easy. Amazon sells the filters for $25 for a two pack which is a really good deal. I noticed nose stuffiness and allergy symptoms reduced within a month after I owned the product. It quickly removes smoke and other bad smells. I enjoy the 3 settings although I mostly use the medium and high settings. Some people are picky about noise but the medium setting is just a quiet hum and of course the high setting is a little louder but I find it useful for blocking out outside noise anyway. Overall, I think this is a good product for the price.

(More customer reviews)I've used this humidifier for about 5 years. I purchased mine on eBay and I love them. This is my second set. It's great to be able to set it and have it turn off by itself. It also has an ionizer, which I love. You can set the humidity anywhere from 40% to 90% and once it reaches that specific point, it will turn off. It has never created a mist in the room or a white film, like the previous reviewer mentioned. But I add a capfull of humidifier/vaporizer treatment, even though it doesn't need it. I am actually looking to purchase another set and am having trouble finding them. I don't really want to pay $99 for one. I found mine cheaper on eBay, but can't find them now. They do go out eventually, mostly because of the hard water. They tend to run for about two and a half years, but I use mine constantly, literally. It's very dry in Colorado. All in all though, it's a great humidifier.

Also, it has LED light warning so that if my room air is not good, red light shows on top left hole. If my room air is clean, it gives blue light. It works very fast with super strong air pump. My office is in downtown and the air quality is pretty bad. When I smoke in the office, this coway air gets rid of smoking smell so good, nobody notices next morning. I think this coway air is a competitor of iq air, blu air, and rabbit air. But, I like this one since it has nice design and very quiet.
Pros:
- 5 year warranty
- upto 2~3 year filter life
- nice design
- very quiet and automatic settings
- LED warning light for air quality
- works good for pollen
- no smoking smell
Cons:
- no remote control, if you are lazy. but, you can setup for automatic setting so when it is dark, it slows down.
- small size, if you think bigger size works better. I think it is good up to 300 sq ft.
If you are looking for something under $100, this product is more. But, you pay for the price. If you are looking for iq air or blu air, coway air purifier is reasonable and works very good for allergy problem and flu.

Yesterday, the motor in my Venta unit began making a grinding sound after nearly six year of flawless operation. I called Venta customer service this afternoon. After wating a rather long time on hold, I was connected to a very pleasant man, George, who asked me to put the phone next to the motor so he could hear the noise. I did, and he did.
Without a moment's hesitation, George said he would have a new motor shipped at no cost to me, and that delivery could be expected within 5 - 7 business days.
It's always a pleasant surprise to find a company standing unquestioningly behind their warranty. If only more understood that's all it takes to create loyal customers.

I'm pleased to report , my review, below, is still true in every detail. This product has been a terrific investment.

I live in a desert~like New York City apartment and have owned my Venta Air Washer for almost exactly two years. During this time it has been operating on the "high" setting, 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The Air Washer lives up to all of the manufacturer's claims.
The Air Washer is a product of fanatical German engineering, over~design and bullet~proof construction, which accounts for it's rather grotesque price. However, I have owned products of inferior engineering and construction that have had to be replaced after one or two seasons. It is obvious I will own my Air Washer for many years to come.
The principles of operation could not be more simple (it's like a High School science project developed into a luxury product):
1) A fan blows room air straight down into a reservoir of water.
2) In this reservoir of water, a few dozen disks are slowly rotating to multiply the surface area that is wet.
3) Because you are blowing air onto a enlarged wet surface you are multiplying the rate of evaporation.
4) Humidified air is exhausted out of the Air Washer through vents in the side.
THIS WORKS.
On the "high" setting the water reservoir needs to be refilled daily in my apartment (this is highly dependent on your local weather or heating cycle). I end up carrying a couple gallons of water to the device or carrying the device to the bathtub and then back to its spot in my livingroom.
The design of the Air Washer is "neutral." It sits unobtrusive and un~noticed in a corner. It is nearly silent. It is built like a tank: It would be a challenge to damage this product on purpose.
Why not Five Stars?
The Venta Air Washer consumes expendables. You need a water treatment solution to prevent mineral deposits forming on the rotating disks mentioned above (weekly). AND you need a periodic cleaning solution to remove deposits that develop pn the bottoms and walls of the reservoir. I have tried operating the Air Washer without these things. They are required for optimal performance.
Like the device itself, the Venta treatment and cleaning solutions work perfectly and simply. But, THE EXPENDIBLES ARE EXPENSIVE! Assume youy will spend US$50.00 per year.
Also, you would think that for a company selling a FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR humidifier, the Venta aroma therapy scents would smell a bit less like a Central American bordello (not that I've ever seen one of those). Skip these even if they're free samples.
If you want the very best at any price, buy this product.

I purchased this particular one because it didn't have a night light. It was shipped from Target.com and it arrived pretty quickly at my door!
I do use it in a very small area, but it still totally eliminates the litter box smell. I also purchased the Febreze Pet Odor Filters. I did find it confusing which Item Number for the filters to buy. I got 04284F and they fit perfectly.
The unit came with a filter already in it, but I used the Febreze one. I don't know if the original filter would work as well for the litter box, but I plan on using it once I've used the Febreze filters.
Some reviewers complained about the noise of the fan, but I do not find it too loud and the unit is right outside my bedroom door. Other reviewers complained about the size of the unit as well, but I don't find it hideous or too large either.
Also, if you plug the unit into the bottom of your outlet, you can still use the one on the top, which is a plus!
I will be telling everyone I know about this magic Odor Eliminator! I would highly recommend it for anyone with a litter box in a small area!!

(More customer reviews)This purifier has all but kept my pet allergy at bay and has collected a large amount of dust/debris/animal hair that's been flying around in my air system. I leave it on all day and night.
The prior review stated that a ring at the base destroyed their carpet. This product is designed to gather in dirty air and spit out fresh air - not all of the dust is going to get pulled in and some WILL collect at the base - but unless you vacuum once per year, this is no problem at all. Just vacuum your carpet regularly.
I have light carpet (Mohawk I think) and it's fine. There is a ring where the unit was sitting, but this is from the base sitting in one spot for a while - much like a table leaves an indent in the carpet that comes up after a time.
This product does NOT get 5 starts because the filters are hard to come by. I have to order mine online since Home Depot / Lowes / Target / WalMart / PriceClub (and derivatives) do not carry it.
I've also seen other sites that say the controls are difficult. It's like a cheap car with automatic transmission from the 80's - 3 speeds and an overdrive (psuedo 4th speed).
Oh - and it comes with a remote - how can you go wrong?
Finally - the price. Amazon's price is ridiculous - Home Depot and Lowes regularly sell these things for $180. Occasionally they have 50% off sales. So, get the filters online, but definitely buy the thing in a store.

(More customer reviews)This unit was able to effectively change over air in my apartment and kept me from having my typical astma problems associated with closing windows in the fall / winter. I typically will start wheezing and having breathing problems with indoor allergens, but with this unit in the window I didn't have any problems this year. The unit isn't crazy efficient with heating up the incoming air, I would guess it at 70% efficient... but it really didn't cause a spike in my heating bill that I could notice in the Boston area. I actually save on money because I can now only heat my bedroom at night and shut the door when I would typically need to keep the door open in the winter so I could get some air into the room.
This unit doesn't keep the humidity in so be sure to run a humidifier to keep the air comfortable. I would also suggest measuring twice before cutting the wall edges since they are hard plastic and can't be made longer after mounting the unit in a window. It's not like a window fan where you have a retractable wall that slides in and out to make a tight seal around the window. It's two pieces of hard plastic around some foam to insulate that you physically snap down or cut to fit into the window. That being said it does a good job at insulating if you mount it correctly. I'm very happy to the point where I now own three of these so I can have fresh air in my entire place.
For the price of a centrally mounted HRV (heat recovery ventilator)and the work involved with venting it out... you are by far better off with these small window mounted units. Not only can I bring this to a new apartment when I move, but I did my homework and you can't find a centrally mounted HRV for under 600 bucks with shipping and even then it's a cheap unit. After buying that you would have to mount vents that drive the cost up further along with the required building permits...
In New England the houses tend to be very old and the one I live in was built in 1890.. I stand by getting fresh air as the best way to combat astma and I can say that this unit did the job I asked of it. It can only handle a single room, but the most importaint room is my bedroom and it handled that well. The airflow coming out is not strong, but enough to recycle air.

The function it was made for does its job well enough. But putting one of those annoying Rainbow LEDs in it is not needed. I wasn't looking for a flea-market novelty. I'm sorry i know i give allot of rides to people but my truck is not the magic school bus. on an Added note i live in a bit of a shady hood so I have to take it out at night cause it acts like a rainbow bug zapper and attracts all the insects if you catch my drift. With its slim, space-saving tower design, this air purifier offers out-of-the-way placement while effectively delivering cleaner, healthier indoor air to rooms up to 170 square feet (13 by 13 feet). (More customer reviews)I purchased this little negative ion air purifier because I respond very positively to negative ions, they lift my mood and keep me alert. Plus I have asthma and allergies and thought maybe it would help with that too and it does seem to.
The rechargeable battery holds a charge for quite a long time and the charger doesn't take up a lot of space. The blue light that tells you it's on and working is nice, but can be quite bright in a dark room even when wearing it backwards The blue light makes it very easy to tell when it's turned off or when the charge has run down. As far as the positive effects of the negative ions it is not quite as effective for me as a larger negative ion filter, but it DOES help and you can't wear a tower filter :) The size and weight are great. My only complaint is that the strap is not adjustable for people with larger necks. If you struggle with depression and find you feel better after it rains or snows, try one of these negative ion filters!

Now I have one in the bedroom and one in my work room - I sleep easier, and can work with paints and dusty materials without coughing and sneezing. My allergies have disappeared inside the house (now if the ragweed/pollen outside could just disappear...) The filters last a long time (6 months with continuous use) and I like the ionizer option - if you leave it on, the dust in the air falls to the floor in little balls you can sweep up. Overall, an excellent product with a nice slim line to it so it can fit anywhere.

(More customer reviews)First a note about the color-it is not really that beige like it looks in the picture, it's more of a nice off-white.
This is an okay model however it does not perform nearly as well as the next larger unit (402/403 models) both in terms of air filtering and quietness. While the 400 series is quite a bit larger, it actually takes up about the same floor space and affords you much better performance although looks more like a computer tower.
The 250E takes in air from the back and outputs it out the top, which means you can't place it up against a wall like you can with the 402/403 (which takes in and outputs air from the sides). You can place it 4" from the wall though. Also, because the 400 series is larger, the fan does not have to move as fast, which results in noticeably quieter operation, although the 250E isn't really that loud, it is not near silent at the lowest setting like the 403 is.
The 400 series also has a much more robust (thicker) filter. And, since the 250E outputs air out the top, you cannot put things like books on top of it like you could do with larger units.
This is not a bad unit for a small room though and the compact size is nicer than larger units. It does include a remote control and automatic sensor features, as well as a timer. However, I found that those don't really get used that much since you mostly would want to leave the unit on all the time and then manually turn it up when needed.
That said, the 402/403 unit is a lot larger and looks like a big computer tower. The 250E looks more appropriate for a small room/office and looks more like an air purifier. If you want something that looks a bit more discreet and your room isn't large, this 250E should suit you quite well indeed. You might also consider the Blueair 203W HepaSilent Air-Purification System, White which is a very similar unit for a lot cheaper, minus the remote control and automatic air sensor. Since you basically leave these on all the time and don't fool around with the controls that often, I think there is better value in the Blueair 203 unit.

cons:
- the ionizer feature is more of a display light than anything
- needs a weekly maintenance. water mineral builds up at the bottom, if you let it sit for more than a week, taking it out posts a problem.
- if you even find the time to actually clean the insides of the fan and and take out the dusts and water deposits, it would take a lot of patients since the machine wasn't designed for easy disassemble. (you'll need a thin long screw driver to take out some of the screws.)
bottom line:
machine is great as an alternative humidifier and room fan. It is a high maintenance machine make sure you clean it every week or two.

Blueair Smokestop Filter for 402 Air Purifier Review

(More customer reviews)You're probably completely shocked that this Smokestop Filter costs as much as it does. But trust me, if you have any problems with odors, it's worth EVERY penny.
I normally use the regular Blueair filter for the 402, but I purchased the Smokestop after my neighborhood was flooded with horrible fumes from a nearby methane gas leak. The authorities deemed the gases as harmless, so no evacuations were ordered. However, being very sensitive to fumes of any kind, I became very ill. With no other place to go, I put the Smokestop filter into my 402 and moved the air cleaner into my smallest bedroom, where I camped out for the next couple of days. A trip to any other room of the house left me feeling nauseous, dizzy, with a raging headache and difficulty breathing within minutes (but the fumes were "harmless"!!). The room with the Blueair equipped with the Smokestop filter was absolutely free of odor. It was incredible.
Since not everyone has methane gas leaks permeating their homes (thankfully!), you may never get the chance to test the filter in this way. But it no doubt works wonders with cigarette smoke and other offensive odors that waft into your home.
The filter has 2 "chambers." One filled with activated charcoal, and the other with the familiar Blueair patented white filter. So it doesn't just stop with odors, it still cleans particles from the air with great efficiency, and best of all, Q-U-I-E-T-ly. Just remember to change it after 6 months, even if it means going back to the regular (and cheaper) filter. Happy breathing!
SEPT. 2008 ADDENDUM: I had another fume problem, this time, toxic deck sealant fumes from a home repair seeping into the house. I purchased another Smokestop filter and this time I noticed an odor coming from the filter itself. It's not horrible, but I had become so sensitive to odors after a week of sealant exposure that it made me feel sick. I left the Blueair on high and it has reduced the smell after a few days. To be fair, despite the filter smell, the deck sealant odor was neutralized. And finally, I have a balcony-smoking neighbor, and as soon as secondhand smoke wafts into my bedroom, I turn up the Blueair and the smoke odor is gone in a flash. Just be aware of the initial odor from the filter itself. I'd say I'm dropping my rating to 4 stars, or 3.8 if I could.

Compared to the previous replacement filter, this one had metal where the old one had fiberboard. I suppose this would be an upgrade, except that the designer apparently didn't consider the placement of some bolts on my 15 year old Healthmate; hence the need to put some serious dents into the filter. The previous replacement filter had the same problem, but the fiberboard had more give to it. It is my unscientific impression that the new filter is not as quiet out of the box as the previous replacement filter was (based on my 5 year old memory), but maybe it's just my machine getting older; or different room acoustics. Perhaps another owner can offer a second opinion.

Blueair ECO10 Energy-Star HEPASilent Air Purifier Review

I think the full list price of $900 is outrageous and would not have bought it at full price for what is almost a big computer case with a high quality fan and very high quality HEPA filters. However, I jumped at the chance to buy it at the 50% off sale price or $450. So far it's working really well. It's a bit bulky, but then all good air purifiers are because the filters need enough surface area to work properly. It achieves low power consumption largely by having a large filter area so that the air velocity can be kept low while keeping the air volume high. Low air velocity translates to lower energy consumption and lower noise.
At 10 Watts on the high setting, even if I run it 24/7, the energy consumption will be only $1 a month and my electricity rate in California is a high 14 cents per kWh.
The power switch's placement at foot level is very inconvenient. Unless you leave the unit on for 24 hours a day, everyday, you'll find it a chore to have to constantly bend down to access the switch.
The outside of the product's packaging, as well as all the websites I've visited(including Amazon), says the filters last up to 12 months. That's actually incorrect advertising. The manual says for "optimal use" the filters should be changed every six months. I've noticed the air flow decreased noticeably after 2 months of use at 12 hours a day. Furthermore, in order for the 10-year warranty to be valid, Blueair requires the buyer to change the filters every six months and to send in the registration as explicitly stated in the manual. Of course, the question is whether Blueair will require proof that the user bought new filters every six months when it comes time for warranty work. Oh, another thing, the warranty is only 10 years, not "lifetime" as the websites state, another incorrect advertisement!
The filters cost $100 per set. So if I change the filters religiously every 6 months, the filters alone will cost $200 a year, plus $12 a year for electricity. With charcoal, the operating cost will exceed $300 a year. Ouch! Also, keep in mind that this is just the operating cost for one large room (up to 300 sq. ft.) and not for the whole house.
It's quiet enough even on high that I can sleep with it on high, and on the low setting, it sounds about as loud as a somewhat loud computer case fan and is mostly unobtrusive. The fan noise is not unpleasant. In fact, I sometimes use it on the high setting as a passable white noise machine to drown out ambient noises when I go to sleep.
The only true negative with this unit is it's exclusively a particulates filter. It has no charcoal to absorb odor. In order for the purifier to be effective, I need to keep my bedroom door closed. When the filters were new, the air got stuffy overnight when I kept the door closed. I think it was the smell of the new filters, but after a couple of weeks, the stuffy smell went away. For those who want to filter odor, Blueair makes Smokestop filters include charcoal. The Smokestop filters cost almost twice as much as the regular Eco10 filters and are also not as readily available.
It's interesting to note that the Eco10 has virtually the same 250 CFM rating as the IQAir Heatlh Pro and practically the same percentage particulate reduction. Therefore the two units should have about the same area coverage rating. But the IQAir claims effective up to 900 sq. feet, whereas the Blueair Eco10 only claims 300 sq. ft. with 6 air changes per hour(which is the generally recommended rate by experts). This tells me the IQAir's capacity is overrated vs. the conservative rating of the Eco10. I tried to find the CADR rating of the IQAir but couldn't find it anywhere. Based on the fact that the Blueair Eco10 has a CADR of about 200, I surmise the IQAir has similar CADR. I just don't see how a 200 CADR unit can cover 900 sq. ft. Maybe that's why Consumer Report gave the IQAir a low rating.
Summary:
Pluses: very quiet compared to other brands, very effective filtration down to 0.1 micron at 99.97% efficiency, good air flow of around 250 CFM, good CADR rating of around 200, ultra low electricity consumption.
Minuses: short filter life, very high operating costs because of short filter life and expensive filters, no charcoal to absorb odors, unless you opt for the even more expensive Smokestop filters.
Bottomline: Quiet unit and very energy efficient, BUT the energy savings will not even come close to offsetting the high operating costs associated with the frequent changes of expensive filters.

The way the purifier is designed is quite poor unless you want an ozone purifier that will run only up to 90 minutes a day. There are three settings and the highest setting is such that the ozone comes on for only 10 minutes every 90 minutes. That's only 90 minutes a full day. If that is how much ozone you want then you may be happy with it. My need for the ozone was much greater than that so it was a waste for me.

I have heard conflciting information on the safety of ionizers which produce ozone in the home so I did not want that feature, though it is popular right now. I have pet birds which are high dander and wanted to filter the air in the room the birds are in, both for my health and the birds' health.
I have been really happy with this product. The box says it is for a 16' x 16' room. I am using it in a 12' x 16' room and it seems to do the job. It is compact and is designed to sit on its end or on its side, whichever you prefer. It is beige and unobtrusive. The item is ready to go right out of the box - you just have to install the carbon filters (HEPA filters are pre-installed at the factory). Installing the filters is a snap. The air filter is simple to use. There is power button to turn it on and off and it has four operating speeds, 1 through 4. You can also set a timer function that allows you to set the filter to run for 1-16 hours and then automatically shut off. Impressively, the unit comes with a FIVE YEAR manuafacturer's warranty, something you don't see very often.
I researched HEPA air filters extensively before this purchase. Some HEPA filters cost $50-70 each to replace! This unit's filters are readily available in Wal Mart and Target. Amazon sells a two pack of HEPA filters for this unit that currently costs $32 and a four pack of carbon filters that costs $12. The manufacturer says that the HEPA filters will need changed every 6-12 months and the carbon filters every 3-6 months. Keep in mind that this unit uses two HEPA and two carbon filters. The unit also has indicator lights for each filter to tell you when they need changed. I'll probably spend $88 a year on the filters but that is much lower than for many other HEPA filters I looked at!
I run the unit on speed "3" for about 12 hours per day though you could run the unit continuously. It does a great job of circulating the air. Within the first day I noticed a marked improvement. I can't see very much dust in the air anymore, even in bright light (when you can see the floating dust particles in a room). Also, lots of the bits of feathers and fluff from the birds that used to float throughout the rest of the house are gone. The room did not have an obvious odor before but I really think the carbon filters have made the room smell "fresher."
The only drawback I can think of is that is it somewhat noisy at speeds 3 and 4 which are the most effective speeds. I don't consider this a problem because I am fond of white noise in the background. Some people might find it too noisy at the higher speeds.
Update November 2006: After five months of continuous use this filter stopped working in September 2006. I followed the instructions for returning the item for warranty service which required me to pay for return shipping and also pay to ship the item back. Within about a week Holmes had sent me a brand new filter that is actually a newer, larger, model worth more than the one that had failed. They gave me no hassle and replaced the filter with a better model. This new model is working fine so far. I am pretty pleased with Holmes prompt replacement.

Unit worked OK for about one month, and then cleaning frequency increased until we were doing a Deep Cleaning daily, as the unit would just sit and squeal. Contacted Customer Service, which is really an oxymoron, because there was no "service" involved. After days of sitting on hold, leaving messages trying to get a hold of a Customer Service Rep, as they never returned calls, they authorize the return of my defective unit for exchange. Now for the warranty, it does not cover the cost to return the unit to CA, which I could accept under protest, but then upon receipt of the defective unit you need to call them and provide them with a credit card to cover their $39.95 processing fee ...excuse me ... I have to pay additional costs for a defective unit? Unit is made in China; the product probably costs less than $39.95. I'm cutting my losses and dumping my unit in the trash, I'll find a real company and a unit that actually works as advertised.

(More customer reviews)According to the packaging and description, the LightFlow IonFlow 50 has some amazing new design that silently rids the air of dust, pollutants, and allergens. The claims of winning various awards, the sleek design, and the high price tag would all indicate a high quality product that helps with allergies and keeps homes cleaner. All indications are essentially wrong in this case, as the IonFlow 50 doesn't actually appear to do anything at all.
First off, there's a minor quibble with the instruction manual. For some reason the assembly instructions aren't linear and included in the same place, and require flipping between different sections. As an added annoyance, the plastic guard piece, which is the only part that requires any serious assembly, isn't even required for the device to function.
After several days of use in the living room and a few more in the bedroom, the air purifier hadn't done anything but use electricity. There was no noticeable change to the scent in the room, there was no dust gathered at the base of the device that was pulled from the air, and the air didn't feel any cleaner than it had before.
The IonFlow 50 does have a very attractive design however, and the lights are pretty nifty. Unfortunately that doesn't come even close to justifying the price tag, especially considering the instructions specifically warn against having the air purifier place within a foot of any furniture. Other than aesthetics, there's simply no upside here.

If we used the universal replacement filters, we'd need to use 3 of them. By the time we stack them, we get half rubber edging and half heppa filter. I much prefer the full size heppa filter. I think it does a more efficient job.

Four years and over a hundred flights later (many, long international flights) and I have never come down with as much as a cold. Of course, you need to make sure to wash or sanitize your hands before eating (any means of public transportation is never thoroughly cleaned.
I just got back from the Dominican Republic where I gave my beloved filter to a allergy based asthmatic because she was ending up in the hospital a few times a month. I was told that she was doing much better after one day wearing this unit. Well, I immediately ordered a new one for myself and was pleasantly surprised to see it arrive in this great little aluminum carrying case. The unit is so tiny and unobtrusive yet highly effective. You can actually feel the air movement if you hold it up to your cheek. The battery seems to last forever. I have given out quite a few to friends.
One last point. If you touch the tip while it is operating, it will shut down and reactivate after a bit.

(More customer reviews)I bought this back in December of last year. It was working great! I couldn't smell any odors from the dog or from the kitchen. But within the last 2 months, it stopped working. I was shocked! I thought if I clean out the filters like they suggest, it might solve the problem, but it didn't. After realizing that the unit is in fact not working even the slightest bit, I called the manufacturer, TherapureAir, about the 1 year warranty.
I have seen some bad warranties, but they sure top the list of them! First, they told me to pay to ship the unit back to them, and then they informed me that on top of that, I would have to pay $30 to them, to have a new unit shipped to me. When I asked why I would be paying $30, they stated that I have to cover the "processing fee plus their own shipping and handling."
I was angered and told the guy that if I am shelling out close to $50 for a new unit that might break down again after only 6 months of use, then I mine as well buy a new and different brand unit.
So I thought the money that I would have to shell out for a new unit was bad...but it got worse!
After complaining and telling the guy how it worked great for the first 6 months and then just stopped working, he then confessed that most of their units tend to do that. He said they work 100% for the first few months when you get them, but then afterwards, tend to only work about 40-60%. THIS GUY BASICALLY SAID THEIR UNITS DON'T WORK FOR A LONG TIME AND THAT THEIR PRODUCTS ARE NOT ALL THEY ARE CLAIMING TO BE.
Needless to say, I was outraged and am taking the time to write this review so NO ONE wastes their hard earned money on this piece of junk that the manufacturer even admitted to not working 100% after only a few months.

(More customer reviews)Offhand, I own two FP-P40CX, one KC-150U and two KC-860 units. Suffice to say that I am a fan of Plasmacluster (PIC) technology. While a Blueair MD Pro sits by one side of the bed, a KC-860 sits by the other. An IQAir HealthPro Plus is situated in the family room with a second KC-860 not far away. Lose one point for not retaining the timer and remote control found in previous generation FP models. As of February 2011, the KC-860 is the most powerful stand-alone PIC, room purification unit available to the general public as a consumer purchase. Despite its rather flimsy carbon filter and tested in various bathrooms and a kitchen, the KC-860 does an excellent job of controlling odors so long as the Plasmacluster feature is used. Pre-filter is built into the unit housing (ala Austin Air) for ease of maintenance. KC-860 uses the same exact filters as do KC-100U/KC-150U/KC-850U for ease of filter sourcing. Ion generation crackle is clearly audible on these new models and is likely attributed to greater plasma and hence, ion output. Humidifying filter life can be extended through the use of a silver kill coil within the water tank. Unit can be run dry without the humidifying function in operation. Does not adequately cover stated square footage. CADR = Room Size = 245 Square Feet Area Coverage. Assuming ambient readings, the humidity sensor is typically off by less than 9% versus readings off a Kestrel 4200. Though its one-year warranty manufacturer leaves much to be desired, the KC-860 combines lightweight HEPA and carbon filters, electrostatic filtration and active hydroxyl radical sanitization under a brand name synonymous with good quality over the years. All in all and despite its shortcomings, the KC-860 represents a sane choice in a middle end room purification system that gives mid-high end models a run for their money and then some.

(More customer reviews)Contrary to Honeywell, this unit "pulses" air from the get-go. That would be with all new filters that came with the unit. From Honeywell's site concerning this unit model, it should only pulse when the filters require changing.
The unit makes quite a bit of noise on low speed, enough to compete with the TV and conversation if placed in the same room. We have it in an unused bedroom, not sure how good it will do there for cleaning air in the rooms we do use.
The image shows that the unit is brown, however we received the more pleasant white color.
I regret the purchase and will be purchasing a whole house filter unit that attaches to the central air unit's air handler.
All that being said, it appears to be cleaning air, so one star off for being excessively loud on low speed.UPDATE 01/10/10: I became used to the sound of the unit fairly quick. It is still noticable, but not too annoying since considering it is doing a job. The unit does clean the air in a 20x20 area very good, no doubt about that. It appears the filters do not require any maintenance for 90 days, and then only light vacumming/blowing now and then before a yearly replacement. Also, this particular unit utilizes a "CPZ canister (that) reduces smoke and odors". I retract my initial review above and rate this a five star product.

We purchased it because our little 3 year old Chihuahua had allergies that seemed to just come out of nowhere; biting and gnawing at his feet, pads and legs, chewing between his toes, rubbing his face and eyes on the carpet, scratching at his ears, etc. We had noticed he seemed to be losing his hearing a bit and the vet said he had ear infections, probably due to allergies.
To make things even more difficiult for him, we were having rooms in our home remodeled and all of the dust, dirt, fumes, etc. seemed to really make him absolutely miserable.
We purchased the unit hoping that it would at least help him be a little more comfortable in the house - but we NEVER expected it would take his allergies away 100%! As crazy as it sounds, within 10 minutes of having the unit on in our home office or living room, our Chihuahua no longer was scratching, chewing or rubbing. His ear infections cleared up within days without any meds, which our vet was even surprised to see, and his hearing returned to normal after the infections cleared. Our vet is now considering PetAirapy's professional units for their offices and clinics.

(More customer reviews)I first purchased one of these, years ago when I was trying to find an alternative to the Ionic Breeze. I'd had some of those, but cleaning the wire filaments was a total drag. Plus, I blew one out with a spike to the electrical system, and needed another ionic cleaner. I found these Surround Air units for a good price, and bought one.
The actual product doesn't work as an air cleaner. It's loud, leaves a fairly large "smudge" behind it if you have it too close to the wall, and there's a fairly strong hiss as it charges the air. Cleaning is much easier, as a couple of thumb screws loosen the bottom plate, and you pull out the metal charging plates. You still have problems removing "gunk" if you're a smoker, but Castrol Super Clean followed by some 90% rubbing alcohol does a fine job.
I also noticed a very strong ozone smell, and didn't think much about it. Then we started selling textile products online (originally with eBay). Being smokers, we ran into problems with customers complaining about the smoke odor, and we were about to go out of business. I'm not interested in whether you think smoking is good or bad. We smoke, deal with it. But it IS critically important that our customers can't tell that our products are made in this type of environment.
Thinking of the heavy ozone smell from the Surround Air, we tried an experiment. We put the unit in a plastic bin from Wal-Mart, then put in some scrap, quilted fabric we'd had laying around for 2 years! In a heavy smoker environment! Then we ran the Surround Air overnight (about 12 hours). We then brought the fabric over to a friend of ours who has a very sensitive nose and hates the smell of cigarette smoke. We asked him to sniff the fabric, and all he could smell was "a sort of fabric-y smell."
This unit is useless as far as cleaning air, really, but it's fantastic as a low-cost ozone generator! If you're trying to remove smoke odors (or pet odors, or any other bacteria-related odors), it's a perfect solution. Typical big units are in the $200+ range. Smaller units are available, but they're not as powerful in the ozone department.
To summarize, the very thing that relegates this item to the junk heap as an air purifier, is exactly what returns it to star status for online sellers---particularly those who have pets or who smoke!

Our house has a smoker, 4 small dogs and we burn candles. We need to replace filters every 6+ months. (More customer reviews)There is no magical, cheap, silent, super-energy efficient way to REALLY clean air. PERIOD. There are only measured compromises.
The IQAir is the absolute best air cleaner available to the public. It makes a bit of noise, but very, very little for the massive volume of air. It uses a bit of electricity, but it takes power to pump air through such absolutely, ridiculously, fabulously purifying multi-stage filters. THINK about it.
The filters seem pricey. THEY AREN'T. The filters last a stupefyingly long time. They are huge and thick--everything they need to be, to stop greater than 99% of .003 micron particulates, plus the huge .3 micron particules that make the filters HEPA certified. Just try to picture the difference--a thousand times smaller. That's like the difference in size between a b-b and a 15 foot diameter ball (if they exist). If you spend a bit more, you get gas filtering too. Spend a little more and get yourself a cleanroom certified IQAir, if you need it.
An IQAir Healthpro Plus saved my wife and I from suffering while several brush fires over the past few years have lapped at our neighborhood. Before having the IQAir, we both suffered gravely whenever brush fires were anywhere within 50 miles.
After two years of us raving about our IQAir, our next door neighbors (asthma sufferers) sought refuge in our home during the last fire which was a couple miles upwind and within sight of our house. One evening of easy breathing was enough to convince the cheapskates to pony up for an IQAir (and donate to charity their various Honeywell, Hunter and other big-box store joke filters scattered around their house).

(More customer reviews)I bought a four pack of Pure Citrus from a warehouse store and LOVE these air fresheners. I add them to my laundry liquid, everything smells clean clean clean, I spray them on the air conditioner filter when it turns on or when company is coming, I spray them on the carpets and walls as I clean the house, it doesn't stain at all. My house smells fantastic and I love that they are pure oil, non-aresol. BUT...my whole family really had a tough flu season, and eventually it occurred to me to check out the aromatherapy sites regarding the citrus fragrances since we usually have no health issues. Sure enough, orange oil causes excessive congestion. Bummer, cause I love the smell of orange. But, oh well, the lemon smells clean and fresh and creamy...like the smell of happy and relaxed. So now, instead of "saving money" and buying the four pack which has only one lemon, one citrus blend and one TWO oranges...I am buying them singly online; lemon only, and I don't care that the price is up for me in the process a bit. Worth every penny! The scent is delicious delicious delicious, and effective effective effective and you just can't feel bad when you are surrounded with smells like these. BTW, check out the aromatherapy sites about the benefits of smelling lemon on the brain. It only makes sense to give it to yourself! :-)

I bought this for the childrens room because I had one like it in the past that worked great and is still going strong. This unit is no exception. It works great, the air smells fresh and no problems with allergies as in the past. Definitely a good deal as other units are much more expensive and do just as good of a job.I am planning to buy more as gifts for my older children in their new homes.

It has an odor sensor and remote control. I can tell a difference in the air quality and I have to dust less. The 3 types of filters are prefilter, true hepa filter and plasmawave technology which means it kills bacteria and viruses with an electromagnetic field. I was happy to get such a nice volume filtration unit at a low price. It is light and fairly slim and really pumps the air through.

To me, they are indispensable in maintaining a more comfortable environment, especially as a cubicle dweller at work. They move an easily adequate volume of air - I rarely turn it above the low speed setting. One kind of nice side benefit is that the sound from the fan, while obviously not silent, does create a "white noise" that is somewhat effective in drowning out ambient sounds while not being annoying. If you are looking for a small footprint fan for a space inside of 8x8', this one is highly recommended.

(More customer reviews)I've been through two of these. The first produced room temperature air directly from the fan louveres. I am in a Very low humidity area. Also when the unit is turned off but still plugged in ,the control panel gets almost too hot to touch. Edgestar service said everything seems normal but allowed me to return the unit. It is a really nice looking cooler and I wanted it to work so I got a replacement. The second unit produced 4 degree cooler air. The controls still got hot enough for me to consider it a fire hazard. The ocillating feature also didn't work. This unit was also returned. The service Tech let it slip that 4 degrees was about normal and the catch was " Up To " 12 degrees cooler. A much cheaper tower fan would probably be a better choice than this.

(More customer reviews)We've been running two of these units at home for six months now. The amount of garbage they pull out of the air is amazing. The unit is reasonably quiet on setting 2 and much too loud on 3. I'm not sure it is moving enough air on setting 1 to accomplish much.
The only disappointment is the high price of the filters -- if you can find them. Online sources are much more reasonable, but availability seems spotty. I'm hoping this will improve moving forward.

I was interested in one that works well, will not look like an eye sore in the bedroom and is fairly quiet. After using a few other purifiers I am happy to say that the Oransi is quieter and seems to work as well if not better than the others. The only thing that would be nice is that if there was a way to turn off the light around the power button. I like it totally dark at night and had to turn it slightly so it doesn't bother me. It's not a huge deal but I'm always looking for ways to make things better.

This item was intended to help clear an 11x11 bedroom from allergens as well as refresh stagnate air. It does not disappoint. The air is clean and odorless in just a few hours of initial use. There is a very natural feel to the room as well. My allergies have considerably improved as a result of running this machine on low. How does it sound? Well I can't even hear it from six feet away on the low setting. On it's medium setting you definitely hear it running, but it isn't a motor sound or a hum, it's just like a box fan. The high setting is the same as the medium only a bit more forceful. You begin to hear the hum. It doesn't rattle. I bought mine at iallergy.com and had an amazing experience. It's $94.00 shipping included. I had two day delivery and prompt friendly phone and email service. I'm particularly impressed with the high CADR ratings. A note on this though...This particular air purifier works in a 15x17 room, and I have mine in an 11x11. What this does is allow you to run the machine at low and avoid any noise on the medium setting (not that it is overly bothersome at that speed). Also, when you kick it up to medium or high, the refresh rate is super fast. Now, GO GET ONE and make your lungs happy!

(More customer reviews)I'm returning it since I've given it a week and it has made any impact on air quality at all, in my opinion. I live in Manhattan and am on a lower floor of an apartment building. I get a lot of black residue that manages to get in even when my windows are closed -- this was always picked up by my other air cleaners. In a nutshell, it is extremely easy to see/smell/experience when an air cleaning product is working in my apartment.
Someone broke one of two air cleaners that I owned and I was getting this as a replacement. At the end of this week's run of using the LightAir IonFlow 50C, I moved my other remaining air purifier back into my room and could get results I was used to. The thing is, I need two -- one for the bedroom and one for the living room/dining room area, so I am back to searching.
Almost none of the pictures you see for this product on Amazon for this product match what it looks like; it wasn't a big deal since one of them did actually match -- the rest are pictures of another product by the same company.
Some pros: it was quite easy to set up. I had it up and going within 10 minutes -- most of that time was spent ensuring I met the placement criteria.
Cons:
again, I didn't see any effect at all.

this air cleaner has to be at least three feet from any wall, at least two feet from the ceiling and, ideally, should be even farther away from electronics (I didn't pay too much attention to this measurement since it wasn't relevant in my bedroom).
not exactly a "con," per se, more of a heads up, they mention that the electrical shock you get from touching the cleaner is extremely mild. It was really jarring for me to touch it. Not a deal-breaker, especially since I just had to unplug it to be able to touch the actual body of the appliance.

I also can't understand why the filters cost so much....they are small and only last a month or two before you need to replace them. I have found them at Target and at Ace Hardware.....but they are always $20 each. So basically we are getting $10 off on the 4 pack...plus no tax or postage, if you use the 1-click feature.
As for as buying gas....you could only buy about 5 gallons of gas and with all the gas hogs on the road polluting the air....you really need the air cleaners, so at least at night you can breath clean air....

I had a friend who had used this product and was very happy. My problem with the product that I would like to pass on is the fact I am senistive to whatever is used in the product. As soon as I had it around my neck and switched on the air freshener my throat started to hurt and I had a problem breathing. This product does not offer a refund if you aren't happy with the product and it is very expensive for a senior like me.

All of my symptoms have been greatly reduced to the point that I'm thinking of buying a second one to filter the entire house. The unit has a small foot print approximately a square foot and less than 2' tall, so it doesn't require a lot of space. The draw back is the unit is fairly noisy but I am willing to put up with it to feel this much better!

(More customer reviews)I have a lot of sensitivity to smoke. I live in a development with a lot of fireplaces. These days people use fireplaces to save money on high fuel bills. Fireplace smoke is just about the worst irritant for me. I have 2 of these machines if I fire them up they work for me. No other machine I have owned have worked as well. They cost but they work. I can be inhaler free if I choose to. The machine costs less then steroids do plus no side effects. If you know your neighbors fireplace bothers you this is worth a try. I went back and looked at the older review of one star the buyer states he got 4 charcoal filters for 1200 bucks. This review is not accurate. The filters contain far more chemical then charcoal. I know because I built my own charcoal/carbon filters from activated charcoal. While my activated charcoal filters help with fireplace smoke they are not good enough. Unfortunately if you have chemical sensitivities to air charcoal alone will not do the trick. Charcoal/carbon and hepa filter is also not good enough. Personally I look to buy these used on e b a y . I then put new filters in them from amazon. Saves some money. It is nice to wake up in the morning and breath in clean air. It is nice to feel open clear lungs. Later this week I will try to find the other chemicals used in these filters.

(More customer reviews)This product works to STERILIZE air by destroying bacteria and mold spores DNA and does so well...if you are looking for something to remove particulate matter i'd buy a rabbit air by mitsubishi...OUTSTANDING PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE or IQ Air, BluAir, or Austin which are also outstanding but plan to spend some bucks for those units....this UV unit makes an EXCELLENT supplement....to those who complain about the low fan speed, if you research UV-C you'll understand why the fan speed is somewhat low which in turn does create less air exchange. The product does not claim to clean germs and mold in the air in a 200sqft space more than once in an hour.....which obviously by most air purifier standards is extremely minimal...BUT...find me a better machine at killing mold toxins and bacteria at the DNA level? Bacteria and mold need time in the aluminum lined light chamber to be destroyed so the germ guardian air exchange is low to allow the unit to perform its job while the aluminum intensifies the strength of the light. UV will also destroy some VOC's but not remove particulate matter (dust, dander, allergens etc). The bottom line is this product WORKS to KILL MOLD AND BACTERIA VERY WELL! Two of these units took the musty mold smell out of a room in our office and made it smell almost sterile or hospital like (obviously proper mold remediation is crucial too depending on the scope of your problem). If you are trying to sterilize a large space (more than 200sqft) I would add this a supplement to a larger machine or buy two. Again, EXCELLENT device if you are looking to STERILIZE your air! Hospitals use the same UV technology to sterilize air...if dust, dander, and other particulates are an issue buy a rabbit or other HEPA air purifier mentioned above and buy this to enhance sterilization.
3-13-10 update - The product quality has come under fire and I can only report that I've been using my two units 24/7 for 1.5 years and the bulbs have been fine. My first bulb started flickering and went bad just recently.Not doubting others troubles but ased on some of the other quality control problems I've read here I guess I've been lucky. My bulbs have worked great and fans arent completely quiet but not loud either. The manufacture does suggest replacing bulbs annually and I would agree. Seems after about a year they have lost some intensity due to their small size. In my opinion the unit could be a larger with bigger more intense bulbs to maximize larger room sterilization.

There was minimal noise for the first week. You would not know it was in the room. After that, the noise grew to the point that I had to turn it off every time the phone rang or someone wanted to talk to me in my office.

Then I put it in my fridge and it worked there as well--when the fresh baking soda didn't work at all. The only thing I didn't realize is that there is no smell--it doesn't replace the stink with something clean or fresh, it just absorbs the bad odor. So the trash smells like plastic and trash, and the fridge like cold and old food, but none of the awful smells linger.

We normally run it on medium or high speed when the weather is 35 or colder here in New England and turn it down to low if the temperature outside goes up or it's raining out. Doing this keeps the humidity in the house a pretty constant 40-45 per cent. We have a Colonial house and keep the upstairs bedrooms closed so the unit is just taking care of aboout 1100 ft. downstairs. I fill it in the morning and just before bedtime. They only hold a few gallons of water, but what a difference they make. We have had hardly any colds since we bought ours a couple of years ago, and we're not constantly having to put on lip balm or hand lotions like we used to. Your skin will thank you for it. But wait...there's more...hehe...Wait til you empty and clean it like I do every 2 weeks. The water you dump in the sink...unbelieveable what this unit takes out of the air. Remember, it's an air purifier too. It's amazing to see the junk that's in the dirty water. Stuff you would normally be breathing in.
It's light weight and small enough to be unobtrusive. I had a problem with mine the second year...called the company and within 3 days had a replacement part that was a snap to install, free of charge of course. Fantastic 10 year warranty.
Proof of how much we love this unit...the day it broke was a Sunday and dry as a bone...temp in the teens. Within an hour I was home from Bed and Bath with a new unit. Didn't even want to go 3 days without one running. Now we run them both on low speed most of the winter.
Check out their website...commercial buildings all over Europe use them as well as musicians with expensive wooden instruments to protect. Little known product just introduced to the US a couple of years ago. Highly recommended.

I used it in the car while driving and in motel rooms at night. We was driving for two to three hours at a time, I thought it worked great in helping me with my seasonal allergies. In motel rooms it helped clean the air and some odors out of the rooms. Have had it only one month but so far no problems.

(More customer reviews)I have been singing the praises of this little device since I first plugged it in. I bought it for the kitchen but, found that the outlet space was a little to small. So, I made room for it in the bathroom. Am I ever glad I did. That thing will NEVER leave the bathroom again! When you're finished in the bathroom, there is NO odor. Great for having guests over during the holidays. You know how there is always ONE who really lights up the bathroom? If you don't know, then you're probably the one I'm talking about. Anyway, the odor removal appliance works great for those special events. It's a great investment. It doesn't cover odors, it ELIMINATES them! Even when we spray our fragrance in the bathroom, the smell never leaves the room. I can't say enough about it. Okay, I can. And, I'll wrap it up here. Buy it, you won't be sorry. I'm getting more for other parts of the house.
